550 Strips and March figures - School Spirit update

Posted by schoolspirit on 1 April, 2008

I haven’t had much of a chance to get back on here so far over the Easter holidays. It’s not that I’ve been anywhere nice and exciting - I’ve only been kicking around home - but there’s been enough to keep me occupied around the traps (and nothing relating to here that’s interesting to talk about) to mean I haven’t posted anything in a while. I’m going to fix that right now.

While it doesn’t feature any insights into teaching kids, or any amusing anecdotes like much of this blog aims to do, it does feature information regarding the other purpose of this blog, as you’ll read next.

The end of March saw two positive outcomes for my webcomic, School Spirit. Firstly, it coincided with the 550th regular sized strip. Granted it’s not a number that deserves a great song and dance like 500 did, or 600 probably will in about five months or so, but it’s a pretty nice round number all the same. That particular strip you can see in a slightly smaller version below. Clicking on the strip will take you to the full sized strip on the webcomic’s official site. You don’t have to do that if you really don’t want to.

Strip 550

The other piece of good news is that March saw the best results in terms of online readership the strip has ever enjoyed. Over 3500 individual visits across the month meant an average of over 110 a day, a new milestone. It also maintained an average of 100 viewers a day for the entire year, which is something I’ve thought the strip has deserved for a while now. After nearly four years it’s good to see that little step accomplished. Last week also saw the strip read by more people than ever before as well, being accessed by 1120 views for the week. I’m a little chuffed right about now at the current results.

So March was a good success. April starts now, and it seems that so far, albeit after only one day, it might be continuing it’s growing (yet still relatively obscure!) attraction. Enough from me for now though. I’ll return next time I can. Maybe it’s time for another book review or something.

Cheers.

Congrats on the big 550 Daniel, and also on making 110 cackles per day!

I only came across your blog yesterday but I think it’s fantastic. I’m setting up a website for Australian primary school educators to collaborate and share resources. Part of the website is a feed aggregation of blogs by Australian primary educators. I’d love if you’d allow me to have your latest blog postings appear on it. You can see it in action at

Your blog is on there at the moment so that I can see how it looks with a few blogs up but I’ll remove it in the next few does unless you’d like for it to stay. If you like, I can remove it instantly.

Great to see your blog is really taking off!

Heh. It’s not the blog that’s taking off, it’s the webcomic side of the collective that’s starting to slowly take off. The blog’s only been going a few months yet. I’ll give it time.

But yes, feel free to keep my latest posts and whatnot up there on this Thinked site. I found it on the Read tab, and yeah, I’ll be happy to have them pop up there as well. Means another piece of advertising (in a way) that I didn’t have to beg, borrow or steal, eh? I’ll have to have a closer look tomorrow now.

    Cheers.
